They knew Brad Landon&#039;s reputation for sobriety and his preaching against alcohol, and who would be drinking it but his wife?     <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Kenneth&#039;s mother, Mae, was anemic and was told by her doctor that she should have a stout or dark beer that would help her overcome her anemia. This was standard procedure in those days. The father, Brad, was preaching against alcohol consumption and was working toward its prohibition. Brad told Kenneth that he was about to order a keg of dark beer or stout for his mother, and when it came, he wanted Kenny to tap it and give her a drink. The barrel dropped down the stairs, bounced several times before Kenneth was able to stabilize it. As he was trying to open it the beer spilled all over and filled the house with the smell of alcohol. When Brad came home, he looked the situation over, and he just looked at Kenneth in disgust. ]]></dcterms:description>

    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[A story from Kenneth&#039;s childhood. It was fall, and very wintry, and very cold, but his brother, Bradley, wanted to go canoeing. To begin with, Bradley sat in the rear and Kenneth sat in the front. They paddled a number of miles before they decided to switch places. In trying to do so they lost control of the canoe. It flipped over, and both of them found themselves in over their heads. The water was ice cold. They struggled to right the canoe, hauled themselves into it, then dipped out the water and began paddling downstream. They were sitting there in icy cold water, paddling like crazy. They returned the canoe they had rented, paid the price, and rushed home to take a bath. ]]></dcterms:description>

    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Kenneth recalls his first visit to the dentist. It was for an extensive work including multiple teeth removal and filings. The dentist wouldn&#039;t tell Kenneth, who was 7 or 8 at the time, what he was going to do, so Kenneth refused to cooperate. They left the dentist and Kenneth later found a dentist of his own, had his teeth removed and the filling done. His father, Brad, had to pay for it, and this dentist became Kenneth&#039;s dentist through the years. ]]></dcterms:description>

    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[The area where Kenneth and his family lived was infested with black snakes, and often the kids would find them curled up in their clothes at the river where they used to go swimming. One day one of the children caught a six-foot snake for the Barnum and Bailey circus and were bringing it to town when the creature curled around his arm and up to his neck and began squeezing him. It took many knife cuts by a farmer to help free the kid from the squeezing of the snake. ]]></dcterms:description>

At age sixteen she became curious about having a baby, and so she had one, and then she disposed it somehow.     <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Mae Landon was a very elegant woman, always properly dressed, walked elegantly, with flashing brown eyes. She was not the kind of person who would bother to explain things to people (like in the stout story). She would sit very elegantly and never let her back touch the chair. One of Mae&#039;s ancestors was a designer for the royal family in England and had a musical education. She often suffered from headaches and Kenneth would massage her.
