His wife was traveling on the same ship and he wanted to save the fare of a keeper for the baby elephant. He brought the elephant to his house and had to hire a man to feed the elephant. Margaret and the kids went several times to watch it. He ended up paying quite some money for the all process in order to get the animal on the ship. A cable came from the US saying that there was no sale of elephant in the US at the present time. But the ship had already sailed. Over a course of 13 years Kip Landon (Kenneth Landon Jr.) began recording stories from his parents, Margaret and Kenneth Landon, resulting in 95 hours of recordings. Beginning on July 20, 1976, recording finished in June, 1978. The project resumed again in 1982 for a few months.
