He lived to be 96 after a very successful career. His son Phya Ratsida was more interesting for Margaret (Margaret and Kenneth pause to talk about Thai courtesy and forms of greetings; she got to talk with country women and learn a great deal of the culture; Kenneth tells a story about building the freedom highway). The old country women who came to see Margaret would always go back to the old governor, Phya Ratsida, and what he did for the region. He could have been seen as a dictator, or feudal, but he did lead the area to prosperity. P. Dunlap a book in which were the names of people in a village where Dr. Dunlap had worked. Kenneth used the book to retrieve the people in the village and began to address them by name. He visited the village several times and stayed overnight the third time in the same room as the rest of the family. He became very acquainted with the villagers, and one day he was visted by a couple of men from the village. Later on the young chief from the village came to propose Kenneth to become their overlord. Margaret describes the very ancient feudal manners with which the chief approached Kenneth to become their overlord. It was very moving. Kenneth expressed deep appreciation for the offer but explained the disadvantages associated with the proposal.  Kenneth and Margaret explain that this was the way governments were formed in Thailand since the 1930s. Kenneth recalls war stories associated with the area and tells of his visit to one particular island. It was eerie. He tells of his long visit inside the cave, how he got stuck at a dead end on his way out, and spared himself another twelve hours of walking by taking a huge risk of jumping down to where he needed to go. He took many pictures of the cave, especially the cathedral inside. He tells of the US soldiers hiding in this cave during WWII and being perfectly safe from the Japanese. Kenneth had told the OSS about this cave. Kenneth recalls war stories associated with the area and tells of his visit to one particular island. It was eerie. He tells of his long visit inside the cave, how he got stuck at a dead end on his way out, and spared himself another twelve hours of walking by taking a huge risk of jumping down to where he needed to go. He took many pictures of the cave, especially the cathedral inside. He tells of the US soldiers hiding in this cave during WWII and being perfectly safe from the Japanese. Peggy is trying to sing, and since she knows no tune, her singing is always "original." Miss Eakin never came back from the US, so Margaret ran the school until she left for furlough and resumed the job upon her return. Mrs. Bulkley had three girls and her two boys were in school in India. The Bulkleys were fundamentalists and this led Mrs. Bulkley to be often rude to people. Margaret tells of Mrs. Bulkley's rude response to her when she suggested that Mrs. Bulkley should grant her daughter, Dorothy, her wish to go to Wheaton College. She explained what the word "fundamentalist" meant in those days, and how fundamentalist views led to much troubles on the mission field.
