Lepers were excluded from society and so he could not get a piece of land close by. Dr. McCain, another missionary, had successfully done a similar work in Chiang Mai, thanks to a service he had done to the Prince of Chiang Mai unwittingly. The McDaniels simply followed the model of Dr. McCain. First the foreign New Year on January 1, then the Chinese New Year in February, and finally the Indian New Year celebration in March. The Indians had a grand time with their celebration. It lasted two days, and the Landons' watchman was gone for three days, needing an extra day to recover from the celebration. Date A point or period of time associated with an event in the lifecycle of the resource January 1, 1929 Title A name given to the resource Siam: The Police Lieutenant at Trang, and Kenneth's Bra Chot Description An account of the resource There was a young police lieutenant in Trang, slender, inconspicuous, not at all the kind you would expect to arrest a "tiger bandit." Yet he was absolutely fearless and quite courageous, without ever showing a sign of these qualities. He managed to arrest without anyone's help the most feared gang bandit in the countryside and so became quite famous. Kenneth was competing with this police lieutenant at the tennis court and was winning, very much against the happiness of the crowd watching their hero lose the game. Kenneth suddenly realized how difficult a position he would be in if he had actually won. He managed to have his opponent win and in a very Thai manner conveyed contempt for what they standed for without saying a word. Kenneth used this Thai technique called "bra chot" in the US as well. Margaret recalls at least two instances where Kenneth used the technique. Kenneth and Margaret describe the fascinating process of moving the boat to sea. It was used to carry the tin, and several people with different expertise were working on the dredge, with the help of many coolies. Mr. Sheehan was one of the winchmen. A pickel of tin was a little bag of tin about the size of a twelve-pound flour sack, but it was almost worth its weight in gold. Over a course of 13 years Kip Landon (Kenneth Landon Jr.) began recording stories from his parents, Margaret and Kenneth Landon, resulting in 95 hours of recordings. Beginning on July 20, 1976, recording finished in June, 1978. The project resumed again in 1982 for a few months. After a long break, the third recording period began in 1988 and concluded in March 1989. Margaret Landon's Family 1850-1950
